St. Chad's Catholic Primary School is a smaller than usual primary school on an urban site in central Birmingham with 192 boys and girls on roll, from 4 - 11 years of age. Most pupils join the school in the reception class. On entry to the school pupils attainment varies. More than 36 per cent are known to be eligible for free school meals, above the national average.
The school has 6.3 percent of pupils identified as having special educational needs, a figure well below the national average. No pupils have statements of special eductional need. The school has almost 20 per cent of pupils for whom English is an additional language, a high proportion, most of whom speak French, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin or Cantonese as a first language. Over 35 per cent of pupils come from ethnic minorities.
The school is a Catholic school, very well regarded by the local community and serves a very mixed catchment area from its own parish of St. Chad's as well as many surrounding parishes. The school is popular with parents. In 1999 it was awarded Beacon status, which it has maintained since then.
